What: Börje Salming Courage Award, Presented by SAP
Details: The Börje Salming Courage Award was first presented in 2023 to honour Swedish hockey legend – Börje Salming. The award honours his courage as a trailblazer of being one of the first European players to make an impact in the National Hockey League. Starting in 1975, Salming was named to six consecutive NHL All Star Teams and became the first European born and trained player inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Award also memorializes Börje’s tremendous courage with his battle with ALS, the deadly neurological disease which sadly claimed his life in 2022. The Award is presented annually to a European NHL Alumni member who has been influential in their home country, and community, while embodying Börje’s legacy of bravery, courage & dedication on and off the ice.
