Guy Carbonneau – Board Member

Guy Carbonneau was one of the NHL’s most elite defensive forwards, known for mastering shutdown roles while contributing offensively when needed. Drafted 44th overall by Montreal in 1979, he began his NHL career in 1980. Though an offensive star in junior hockey—scoring 182 points in his final QMJHL season Carbonneau reinvented himself as a two-way center in the NHL, sacrificing personal stats for team success. He won three Frank J. Selke Trophies (1988, 1989, 1992) as the league’s top defensive forward and helped the Montreal Canadiens capture two Stanley Cups in 1986 and 1993—notably shadowing Wayne Gretzky in the ’93 Final as team captain—making him the last Canadian team captain to hoist the Cup. After 12 seasons in Montreal, he played one year with St. Louis before joining the Dallas Stars, where he won his third Stanley Cup in 1999. Carboneau was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.
