NHL Alumni Association and NDUR for Athletes Join Forces to Champion
Student-Athlete Mental Wellness
May 2025 — Boston, MA & Toronto, ON — NDUR, a next-gen mental wellness platform
built by athletes for athletes, is proud to announce a powerful new partnership with the
NHL Alumni Association (NHLAA). This groundbreaking alliance will bring the voice,
experience, and influence of former NHL players directly into the conversation around
student-athlete mental health.
United by a shared mission, NDUR and NHLAA will collaborate on initiatives that
support and empower student-athletes through peer-driven wellness tools, mentorship,
and authentic storytelling. The partnership is designed to not only raise awareness, but
also to drive real changes in how mental wellness is approached in sports at the high
school and collegiate level.
“As a former professional agent and lifelong advocate for the next generation of
athletes, this partnership is incredibly meaningful,” said Daren Orr, President of NDUR.
“To have the NHL Alumni Association in our corner shows just how serious the sports
community is about reshaping the mental health conversation. Together, we’re going to
make sure student-athletes know they’re never alone and that help, guidance, and real
support is always within reach.”
The action plan includes a strategic awareness campaign, co-branded content and
social strategy, alumni ambassador activations, and a national PSA effort featuring NHL
legends. NDUR’s platform will also serve as a bridge, connecting retired pros with the
student-athletes who look up to them, creating a lasting impact both on and off the ice.
This mission is already being championed by NHL alumni like Ryan Malone and Kelly
Hrudey, who are lending their voices and personal stories to support the next
generation.
Ryan Malone’s journey has given him much reflection to help focus on personal growth
and mental health advocacy. Through the Malone Family Foundation, he has been
actively involved in raising awareness about mental health issues and the positive
impact of community support. “I am very excited about our new partnership with NDUR
as it is another significant vehicle to bring awareness to the importance of mental health
and gives us the opportunity to mentor and support young athletes to provide a healthier
tomorrow for them,” said Malone.
Kelly Hrudey has been a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, often using
his Hockey Night in Canada platform to speak openly about his own experiences. “I
believe that sharing personal stories is one of the most effective ways to create
understanding about mental health. Our bright new partnership with NDUR will provide that platform to share our stories with young athletes and hopefully inspire them to be
more open and talk about their challenges,” Hrudey added.
“This is more than just a partnership, it’s a movement,” said Glenn Healy, Executive
Director of the NHL Alumni Association. “The wellbeing of today’s young athletes is
something we all need to invest in, and NDUR has built a platform that’s ready to lead
the charge. Our alumni are proud to stand behind this mission, to share their stories,
and to help make a real difference.”
The partnership will kick off with a series of digital campaigns and community
activations, with more to come, including guest speaker series, in-person events, and
extended collaborations with leading mental health organizations.
