He debuted in the 2003\u201304 season, leading all NHL rookies with 22 goals and earning a spot on the NHL All\u2011Rookie Team.\u00a0He became notable for his combination of physicality and scoring touch. Often playing alongside Sidney Crosby and Mark Recchi, Malone notched his first NHL hat trick in December 2006 and, remarkably, scored in the first minute of all three periods in another hat trick two days later\u2014joining a rare father\u2011son duo to record hat tricks for the same franchise. He\u00a0Named alternate captain in January 2008, he helped guide the Penguins to the 2008 Stanley Cup Final.
