{"id":2762,"date":"2022-11-02T18:47:08","date_gmt":"2022-11-02T18:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nhlalumni.com\/?p=2762"},"modified":"2022-11-02T18:47:08","modified_gmt":"2022-11-02T18:47:08","slug":"same-team-canadian-cancer-society-nhl-nhlpa-nhlaa-team-up-against-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nhlalumni.com\/?p=2762","title":{"rendered":"Same Team &#8211; Canadian Cancer Society, NHL, NHLPA &#038; NHLAA Team Up Against Cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><b>The Canadian Cancer Society Builds on Partnership with the NHL and the NHLPA with New Awareness Campaign\u00a0<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Powerful new Same Team campaign with the NHL Alumni Association invites hockey players and fans to look past their jerseys and come together to change the future of cancer \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2776 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/nhlalumni.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/SAME_TEAM__LOGOS_ENG-1-300x80.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"692\" height=\"185\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>TORONTO (<\/b><b>November 3<\/b><b>, 2022) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cancer.ca\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canadian Cancer Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CCS) announced today it is expanding its partnership with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Hockey League (NHL\u00ae)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhlpa.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Hockey League Players\u2019 Association (NHLPA)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the launch of <\/span><b>Same Team<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 a dynamic new awareness campaign highlighting the importance of working together to save and improve the lives of people across Canada affected by all types of cancer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NHLPA, the NHL and CCS have an established partnership through their annual fundraising initiative, Hockey Fights Cancer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TM<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (HFC) that enables CCS\u2019s delivery of a nationwide support program for people living with and beyond cancer, their families and caregivers. Building on the long-standing success of HFC, the three organizations, along with the NHL Alumni Association, have developed Same Team to engage a broader audience with the message that <\/span><b>when it comes to cancer, we\u2019re all on the same team. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe deeply value our work with the NHL and the NHLPA. Innovative partnerships like this invite Canadians to engage with and contribute to CCS\u2019s mission in unique ways,\u201d says Pamela Mollica, Executive Vice-President of Marketing and Communications, Canadian Cancer Society. \u201cThe Same Team campaign celebrates our organizations\u2019 shared commitment to the cause and reminds hockey fans that together, we can change the future of cancer forever.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An emotional Same Team campaign debuts this week with a first-of-its-kind video featuring some of hockey\u2019s most notable legends and current superstars.\u00a0The participating players range across many eras of the sport and represent several different teams that have been affected by cancer \u2013 all sharing ice time, the team bench and a commitment to the cause. Some of the players showcased include Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby and Auston Matthews, alongside cancer survivors Mario Lemieux, Phil Kessel and Saku Koivu. The video also includes Hockey Hall of Fame forwards Guy Lafleur, Mike Bossy and Dale Hawerchuk \u2013 all of whom passed away from cancer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBringing current NHL players together on screen with some of the legends of the game for this campaign reinforces the message that we are all on the Same Team. Just as\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cancer has affected players and hockey fans alike, together we share in this fight,\u201d says Mathieu Schneider, NHLPA Special Assistant to the Executive Director.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kim Davis, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Social Impact, Growth Initiatives and Legislative Affairs adds, \u201cFor decades, the NHL has worked across our Clubs and alongside the Players\u2019 Association to support members of our hockey community and those beyond who are fighting cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society is leveraging hockey\u2019s most powerful and inspiring asset \u2013 its community of people \u2013 who time and time again come together in difficult moments and become a source of strength for one another.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Glenn Healy, Executive Director of the NHLAA said<\/strong>, \u201cThe three most devastating words anyone can ever receive are \u2018You Have Cancer\u2019. We\u2019ve seen Legends of our game and members of our hockey family fight this great battle; our work has only begun.
