The Hockey\u00a0Fights Cancer initiative was founded in 1998 by the National Hockey League\u00ae and the\u00a0National Hockey League Players&#8217; Association. Hockey Fights Cancer\u2122(HFC) unites the\u00a0hockey community in support of cancer patients and their families. Throughout the\u00a0month, the entire hockey community comes together to inspire hope and courage for\u00a0those who are living with, going through, and moving past cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The NHL Hockey Fights Cancer Ambassador for the 2019-20 season is NHL Alumni\u00a0member Eddie Olczyk, who has been cancer-free since March of 2018. Eddie has been\u00a0a constant source of inspiration for us all and spoke about his courageous battle with\u00a0colon cancer at our 2018 NHL Alumni Awards Gala Celebration where he received our\u00a0Ace Bailey &#8216;Award of Courage&#8217;. Eddie has done much to bring awareness to colon\u00a0cancer and he&#8217;ll continue to do so as the NHL Hockey Fights Cancer Ambassador.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the month, you will see current NHL players wearing special Hockey Fights\u00a0Cancer jerseys and lavender stick tape during warmups. During these Hockey Fights\u00a0Cancer nights, you will also see lavender dasher boards (lavender representing all\u00a0cancers), and coaches and broadcasters will be wearing HFC ties.\u00a0Players former and\u00a0present, friends, families and staff all take part in\u00a0writing down what or who they are\u00a0fighting for on \u201cI Fight For\u201d signs. Whether it\u2019s a loved one, a neighbour, or just a cure, it\u2019s\u00a0a way to show you are with them during the fight.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of 21 years since its\u00a0inception, the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative has raised and donated over 20 million\u00a0dollars. As a result, some essential services are able to be funded like lodging,\u00a0transportation, and round the clock support for patients and families alike.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The month of November is Hockey Fights Cancer month across the NHL.
